How I made $479 as a mentor! ๐Ÿ’ธ

Let's face it, being an entrepreneur is not easy, especially during a global pandemic. ๐Ÿ˜“

However, I still enjoy the process of building something I really care about and that's why I and my team started our latest startup called trustio! ๐ŸŽ‰

We are still in an early stage and like many other startups, we lack investment...

The bigger challenge comes when you need to pay your bills and at the same time want to invest your time building an app for your startup. Sure, I can find a job and work part-time for trustio, but we would move very slow and it's gonna take many months until we release an MVP.

Starting Mentoring

That's why I decided to try something like codementor.io. I was doing free mentorship before, and I quite enjoyed it, that's what motivated me to apply for codementor. And after a few weeks, I got finally accepted! ๐ŸŽ‰

Since then, I have been applying to a lot of requests on the website in order to get some sessions. I started with a $10 rate per 15 minutes. It was a good start, but I soon realized that the time I put on codementor was not worth it and I probably could do something better and make more money from.

That's when I decided to instead raise my rate to $20 per 15 minutes and after a week of having a few sessions, I finally raised my rate to $25 per 15 minutes. ๐Ÿ’ธ

The decision to increase my rate came from the open requests that I was seeing on the main page, it seemed that people expected the rate for the work I was doing, to be a lot more expensive than what I was charging. ๐Ÿค”

After asking my previous mentees if the increase in my rate was still okay with them and getting positive feedback, I decided that my decision to increase my rate was a good one. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

My Success On Codementor

Now, doing sessions on codementor became quite a good investment of my time. I also saw an increase in session requests on my profile after increasing my rate. I believe that it's because of 3 factors:

  1. I managed to bring great value to my mentees which in turn made them want more sessions with me.
  2. An increase in my rate, increased their trust in me.
  3. People started to see me as an authority figure by reading my blog posts on codementor. Screenshot 2021-04-06 at 8.58.56 PM.png

Earnings

So far I have done 10 sessions which turned out to be $479 after codementor fees (22-19%), not gonna lie, their fees are not small, but it's still worth it.

Yep, you saw it right, I haven't had an income since January, have been living on my savings for a while now... ๐Ÿ˜…

Conclusion

I am happy that codementor worked out for me and continues to be a good revenue stream as a part-time job. ๐Ÿ˜Š
